Islanders Win Senior Floor Hockey

The Islanders used a flair for the dramatics and clutch scoring to emerge as the champions from the Senior Floor Hockey Playoff Night at the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club on Monday.

The Islanders nipped the Rangers 7-6 in the semi-finals while Red Wings clipped the Penguins 3-2. The championship game went to a shootout with the Islanders breaking a 5-5 tie by a shootout goal from Alex Barrett.

The Islanders and the Red Wings both received team awards after the game in a ceremony where individual awards were presented to Ian Sovie of the Red Wings as the Outstanding Defensive Player, “Spencer “Fishy Mayette of the Wings as the Outstanding Offensive Player and Alex Barrett of the Islanders and Zach Worden of the Penguins as the recipients of the Outstanding Sportsmanship Awards.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Alex Barrett’s shootout goal decided the issue in the favor the Islanders who overcame a four-goal effort by Spencer “Fishy” Mayette. Barrett also scored twice in regulation and overtime for the winners who received single tallies from Connor Sibley, Jake Sharpe and Zach Thomas.

Harry Powers netted a single goal for the Red Wings.

Other members of the Islanders are: Zach Bidwell, Jesslyn Snyder and Dustin Brashaw. Also playing for the Red Wings was Mitchell Brenno.

SEMI-FINALS

Matt Piercey’s four goals sparked the Islanders to a semi-final win over the Rangers who received five goals from Rudy Binion. Connor Sibley scored twice for the winners and Tristan Lovely netted a solo goal. Mitchell Barber netted a single goal for the Rangers and Marcus Johnson added an assist.

The Red Wings advanced to the finals in the defensive duel of the evening. Spencer “Fishy” Mayette scored twice for the winners and Mecci Johnson added one goal. Alex Barrett and Tristan Lovelyy scored for the Penguins.
