Man hospitalized after allegedly smashing head through window at Saturday morning arraignment

A man was rushed to Samaritan Medical Center after he apparently threw his head against a glass window Saturday morning at City Court.

Police said the man had just finished an arraignment when the incident occurred. Jefferson County 911 dispatch said a call reporting a laceration came in at 9:12 a.m.

Samaritan confirmed the man’s identity as 46-year-old Charles W. Howard Jr., of 652 Arsenal St., Apt. 105. He was arrested at 2:40 p.m. Friday on charges of felony criminal contempt and resisting arrest. City police said Mr. Howard knowingly violated an order of protection issued by City Court on June 17 protecting Cathleen I. Howard, of 411 Arsenal St., Apt. 2. He previously was convicted of second-degree criminal contempt in Onondaga County Court on May 31, 2012.
