City man charged with violating order of protection

Anthony M. Torres, 22, of 221 E. Main St., Upper Apt., was charged by city police with second-degree criminal contempt after he allegedly sent text messages and made phone calls to his wife against the terms of a court order.

Police said Mr. Torres sent the messages and calls to Sara H. Torres, same address. This alleged communication violated a stay-away order of protection issued Jan. 6 by City Court. The order of protection was issued after a Jan. 5 domestic incident between the two in which Mr. Torres allegedly took Ms. Torres’s cellphone, valued at $600, and broke it, thus preventing her from calling police.

He was arrested at the residence at 9:04 p.m. Saturday, taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building and held pending arraignment in City Court.
