Motorists charged with DWI, related offenses

The following motorists are charged with driving while intoxicated and related offenses:

n Andrew J. Burwell, 28, of Hermon, was charged by Potsdam village police early Saturday. He also was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Police said Mr. Burwell was stopped on May Road in Potsdam for inadequate brake lights. His blood alcohol content was listed as 0.11 percent. Under state law, a BAC of 0.08 percent or higher constitutes proof of intoxication.

n Jessica L. Boice, 25, of 68 Ames St., Massena, was charged by Massena village police Saturday night. Police said Ms. Boice was driving on Center Street in the village when a patrol noticed her run a red light and said she was driving erratically. Her BAC was not available.

n Jeffrey J. Kendall, 33, of DePeyster, also was charged by state police with aggravated unlicensed operation early Sunday.

Police said they witnessed Mr. Kendall pulling into a yard at 5648 County Route 6, Oswegatchie, where he did not live, at 2:30 a.m. His BAC was 0.14 percent, police said.

n Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies charged John R. Johnston, 47, of 16080 Hamp Road, with aggravated DWI and traffic infractions after an accident Saturday night on Washington Street. Mr. Johnston admitted to having “a few” whiskies at a bar before driving home, deputies said.

He was taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building and issued a breath test, which determined his BAC to be 0.24 percent, they said. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or higher.

He also was charged with unsafe lane change.

n Stacey L. LaLonde, 41, of 11 Avery Ave., Alexandria Bay, was charged by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies following a motor vehicle accident March 16.

She also was charged with crossing road hazard markings and unsafe lane change after she was involved in a motor vehicle accident northbound on Interstate 81, deputies said. She was taken to Samaritan Medical Center with injuries suffered in the crash. Her BAC was not available.

n Corey V. Deveines, 24, of 10010 Route 12, Copenhagen, also was charged with drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on a highway, failure to signal and failure to use designated lane after state police stopped him about 11:10 p.m. Saturday for allegedly crossing a double solid line on County Route 47 in the town of Champion. Police said he failed a field sobriety test and they noticed a strong odor of alcohol. His BAC was 0.13 percent, they said.
