HAMMOND Dairy farmer Liz Barden is one of five farmers statewide who are hosting organic dairy roundtable lunch discussion meetings to share their experiences and identify goals for the upcoming growing season. She will host the 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 11 discussion at the Hammond Village Hall, 24 S. Main Street.
The series of meetings is a project of the NY Organic Dairy Initiative/NYODI, funded by the New York Farm Viability Institute since 2005.
Topics for discussion include herd health, nutrition, field crop production, building designs, pasture management, and goal setting.
At each meeting, NYODI Coordinator Fay Benson will also share fact sheets, videos, online resources and contact info to help the participating farmers access the assistance of nutritionists, crop consultants and veterinarians with organic dairy industry expertise. Lunch will also be provided at each meeting.
Registration by email to Elizabeth.email@example.com is preferred or call Sharon VanDeuson at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cortland County at 607-753-5078 for the Hammond program.
