POTSDAM - With the glow of the Clarkson women’s national Division 1 championship still fresh in their minds, two youth hockey teams will be joining forces for a fundraiser tonight as they prepare for trips next week to national tournaments.

The Potsdam Elks Lodge is putting on a spaghetti feed with the proceeds benefitting the St. Lawrence Thunder 14U bantams and the Potsdam Ice Storm 16U midgets. Both teams feature players from Potsdam, Massena and around the region.

The spaghetti feed, which costs $8, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight. Take-outs are available, and there will be delivery within the village of Potsdam.

“It will be a fun night with both teams there. We have some brothers and sisters on the teams heading to the nationals this year. The boys and girls will there working. The kids want to fundraise to alleviate the financial burden on their parents,” Judie M. Trimboli, a parent of an Ice Storm player, said.

She said the evening’s events will also include a 50-50 raffle and gift baskets.

“We will have tons of baskets and lots of hockey paraphernalia, and I know the parents are baking a wide assortment of desserts from cookies and cakes to brownies, and I know one parent is making Death by Chocolate,” Ms. Trimboli said.

She acknowledged the fundraising challenge for the two teams is a little less daunting than in has been in the recent past.

The Ice Storm traveled to Dallas two years ago and spent a week in in San Jose, Calif., in April 2013. This year the team is headed to the Buffalo area for its nationals, and the Thunder bantams will be playing in Hackensack. N.J.

The Thunder, who played their way to the national title game in each of the past two years, travelled to Raleigh, N.C., last year and played in Wayne, N.J., two years ago.

“We don’t have to worry about flights and rental cars and vans this year, but our warm-up gear will not consist of T-shirts and shorts like it did last year,” she quipped.

But Ms. Trimboli said the there is still a cost to earning the right to play for the national championship. The teams will be staying for a minimum of five nights at hotels chosen by USA Hockey, and the cost for parents and siblings to enter the area ranges between $25 and $35.

“There is a lot of stuff that is required,” she noted.

The Ice Storm has a number of other activities planned for the next few days: They include:

■ Casella’s has set up a dumpster in the parking lot at the Pine Street Arena for scrap metal items, ranging from stainless steel sinks, engines and aluminum gutters to appliances, barbecue grills and bicycles. ■ Tickets are being sold for a lottery tree, with $75 worth of lottery tickets purchased and placed on the tree. Tickets are $2 each or $5 for three tickets. Tickets are being sold by parents of the Ice Storm U16 players and the drawing will be held April 1.
