Gouverneur - C. Richard “Red” Roe, age 83, passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.

A funeral service will be on Friday, March 28th at the Green Funeral Home in Gouverneur at 2 pm with Father Stephen Rocker, pastor of St. James Catholic Church officiating with burial will be in the spring in New St. James Cemetery in Gouverneur. Calling hours will be at the Green Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm.

Red was born March 4, 1931, the son of Richard and Cecilia Dolega Roe in Port Jefferson, Long Island.

Red attended schools on Long Island and served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1952. He was employed as a driller for 33 years at St. Joe Mineral Company.

Red married Patricia Hendricks on December 2, 1950.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Gouverneur, the Gouverneur American Legion, a charter member of the Gouverneur Elks Lodge, and was a member of the Gouverneur Fire Department and the Gouverneur Exempt Firemen. He enjoyed collecting antiques, gardening, old cars, reading about history, and most of all, going to his camp on Pleasant Lake.

Red is survived by his wife Pat, his son Richard M. Roe of Scotia, a daughter Kathryn Roe of Philadelphia, three grandchildren Kristina (Steve) Taylor, Leif Jensen, and Scott Thomas, great grandchildren Naevaeh Jensen and Jordan Taylor. He is also survived by a brother Donald Roe of Florida, NY, 2 sisters Susan LaLonde of Ogdensburg, and Gloria Knowlton of Goshen, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by an infant daughter Maureen Ann Roe and a brother Robert Roe.

Memorial donations in Red’s memory may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association Central New York, 441 W. Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse, NY 13204.
