Donald L. Hoch


WATSON – Donald L. Hoch, 94, of Number Four Road, passed away at his home on Monday, March 24, 2014, while under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be in the Martinsburg Cemetery in the Spring. Contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367

Mr. Hoch was born on August 11, 1919 at the family residence on the Smith Road, Town of West Turin, NY, a son of the late Sylvester and Mary Goodale Hoch. He married Beulah Mae Brown on April 27, 1939, which ended in divorce. Mr. Hoch owned and operated a welding and mechanical shop at his home in Beaches Bridge for many years. He then worked for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in Lowville as a heavy equipment operator, retiring after many years.

He is survived by his two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty and Doug Stevens of Manchester, NY; and Donna Hoch Yousey of Lowville; a brother-in-law, Lyle Robbins of East Martinsburg; seven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Geraldine Chapman. He is predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Hoch Lucas in 2000; two brothers, Calvin Hoch and Frank Hoch, and two sisters, Norma Robbins and Grace Adams.

Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garage until becoming ill.
