St. John’s makes donation to soldiers in need


St. John’s Episcopal Church Parish recently made a generous gift to Amvets Post 19 Ladies Auxiliary for the purchase of bedding and blankets for 40 adopted soldiers living in the barracks at Fort Drum. Over the past 12 years, St. John’s Parish has supported local soldiers and veterans.

They have been apart of “Adopt-a-Platoon” campaign, sending cards and gift packages to a platoon in Afghanistan. Annual city –wide Veteran’s Day services for the past three years; established a Veteran’s Memorial flag pole in the memorial garden at the church, held weekly prayers for the military at St. John’s Altar of the Armed Forces, visited with local veterans in nursing homes at Christmas time, and maintaining Potters Field.

St. John’s Parish was also active in the Vietnam moving way visit to Ogdensburg, members have helped clean up soldiers plots at Ogdensburgh Cemetery, participated in the Blessing and dedication of the Vietnam Moving Wall (permanent) Monument.
