AKWESASNE - A Hogansburg man was sentenced Thursday to 6 years in federal prison for his role in a oxycodone trafficking ring.

Travis R. Adams, age not available, also was ordered in U.S. District Court, Plattsburgh, to undergo three additional years of supervision upon his release from prison after pleading guilty June 19 to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

According to a plea agreement filed with the court, Adams admitted that from at least April 2012 until July 2012, he was associated with a drug trafficking organization distributing large quantities of oxycodone to drug users in and around the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation.

In about April 2012, codefendant James Labarr provided Mr. Adams with the name and contact information of an oxycodone supplier in Cornwall, Ont. Thereafter, Adams and an unnamed co-conspirator began coordinating with the source of the supply to purchase large quantities of the drug, with Adams typically obtaining at least 400 80 mg pills per month, according to the agreement. Adams would then redistribute those tablets to drug users on the reservation and in the surrounding area.

On July 12, 2012, codefendant Carrie Lazore ordered 30 pills from Adams and as he attempted to deliver them at an Akwesasne gas station law enforcement officers interceded. According to a plea agreement filed in Lazore’s case, an undercover Department of Homeland Security special agent was with Lazore at the time of the transaction.

Lazore pleaded guilty to her role in the conspiracy in November 2012 and is due to be sentenced April 24. Labarr pleaded guilty March 20 and is scheduled to be sentenced July 14, while Teri Jo Lazore pleaded guilty in May 2012 and is awaiting sentence April 24. Todd Edwards pleaded guilty Oct. 13 and was sentenced Feb. 28 to just under five years in prison. Charges against Evan Adams remain pending.
