Gouverneur man charged with DWI after hitting state police car

GOUVERNEUR — State police on Friday charged Frederick C. Foster, 52, of 20 E. Babcock St., with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. He also was ticketed with failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Troopers said that at 4:19 p.m. Mr. Foster was making a left onto West Main Street heading north out of the Veterans of Foreign Wars when he hit a state police cruiser with its emergency lights on heading in the same direction. No injuries were reported and police said both vehicles suffered minimal damage.

After being processed at the state police barracks, Mr. Foster was reported to have had a blood alcohol content of 0.16 percent. Under state law, a BAC of 0.08 percent or higher constitutes proof of intoxication.

Mr. Foster was issued tickets returnable to Town Court.
