General Brown wrestling duo named All-Americans

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Ryan Snow and Riccardo Dawkins of General Brown each earned All-American status during the National High School Coaches Association wrestling championships, which conclude today at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

Snow, a senior wrestling at 126 pounds, enters today’s competition at 5-1, including three victories over reigning state champions. He is scheduled to wrestle Jason Delacruz of California today to solidify a 3rd-8th placement.

To advance to the placement round, Snow on Saturday defeated Luis Gonzalez of New Jersey, who was nationally ranked in the top 10.

Dawkins is 3-1, including all three wins by pinfall, in the sophomore division at 195 pounds. He is to meet Ben Stacey of Tennessee today to determine a 3rd-8th placing.

Five other Frontier League wrestlers competed, including General Brown’s Tyler Silverthorn (senior, 152 pounds) and Trevor Snow (freshman, 152). South Jefferson was represented by Daniel Smith (senior, 182), Holden Pelton (sophomore, 138) and Caleb Beach (freshman, 132). Silverthorn and Beach were one round out from placing as All-Americans.

GIRLS LACROSSE

CARTHAGE 9, LIVERPOOL 8

Peyton Romig recorded four goals, including the game winner, to lift the Comets to a season-opening nonleague victory at Liverpool.

Hannah Millich and Braelie Kempney scored twice each for the Comets.

WATERTOWN 19, OWEGO 8

Olivia Miles and Morgan Girardi each finished with six goals and two assists to carry the Cyclones to a season-opening victory at SUNY Cortland.

Courtney Gebo scored three goals for Watertown.

BOYS LACROSSE

WATERTOWN 14, MCQUAID JESUIT 13

Noah Taylor recorded four goals and five assists during the Cyclones’ season-opening victory at Rochester.

Brad McKinney supplied four goals and three assists.

FAYETTEVILLE-MANLIUS 13, IHC 4

Jack Wilson finished with five goals and one assist to help spark the Hornets to a season-opening nonleague victory.

Pat Gefell scored twice for the Cavaliers, and Jared Pignone won 15 of 21 faceoffs.
