The Adirondack Daily Enterprise posted a story with an illuminating interview with the Green Party candidates in the 21st Congressional District.

Both Donald L. Hassig, Colton, and Matt Funiciello, Glens Falls, say they will have a sufficient number of signatures to be placed on the primary ballot. Candidates must secure the signatures of 55 registered Green Party members.

Mr. Funiciello told the paper he has enough signatures to qualify, but will continue to solicit more until the April 10 deadline so that he can withstand any challenges to the petitions. Mr. Hassig said he has 21 signatures, 34 short of the needed number. As Mr. Funiciello points out, prudence would dictate a number high than the minimum in order to withstand challenges.

The Enterprise reports that both candidates have agreed to participate in a debate before the primary.

Mr. Funiciello told the Enterprise that he has an unstaffed office above his Glens Falls cafe, but that he has a dozen volunteers helping him raise signatures.

Aaron G. Woolf, the front-running candidate for the Democratic Party’s line on the 21st CD ballot, has picked up the endorsement of the Essex County Democratic Committee. In February, he was endorsed by the county committee chairman.

Mr. Woolf is being challenged by Stephen Burke of Heuvelton. Both men are gathering petitions to get on the June 24 primary ballot. Petitions are due April 10.
