Former Evans Mills fire chief sentenced to prison for sex with minor

WATERTOWN — A former Evans Mills fire chief was sentenced Tuesday in Jefferson County Court to two years in state prison for having sexual contact with a minor.

Shawn R. Rutmanis, 43, whose last known address was 714 Stonewood Drive, Apt. B, also was ordered to undergo five additional years of supervision and register with the state as a sex offender upon his release from prison after pleading guilty Feb. 14 to third-degree criminal sexual act.

He admitted that between February and July 2008 he engaged in sexual conduct with a girl under the age of 17. Police said at the time of his arrest that the incidents occurred when the girl was 15 and 16 years old.
