Nancy Ruth Butler, 67, formerly of St. Regis Falls, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at her home in Maryland, while being comforted by her family. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira, N.Y.

She was born in Malone, N.Y. on Jan. 21, 1947 the daughter of Ralph and Vera (Westurn) Butler. She attended St. Regis Falls Central School. In 1986 she received her Maryland State GED, and continued to obtain her associate’s degree in criminal justice. Nancy worked as a corrections officer in Maryland State Division of Corrections retiring in 1999, and she was a member of the American Legion Post 211, in Funkstown, Md. A union of marriage later ended in a divorce.

Scrapbooking, and jewelry making were just a few of Nancy’s hobbies, however she was a very gifted seamstress, and made several wedding dresses for family members.

Special memories will be forever in the hearts of her son, Wade (Judie) Needy; her daughter Katrina Needy; her grandchildren, who lovingly called her Nana, Miranda, Allison, William, and Claudia, and a great-granddaughter, Gabriella, all of Hagerstown, Md.; a sister, Nadine (Tommy) Butler Sochia of St. Regis Falls; nieces Sarah and Anna; nephews Samuel and Adam; nineteen great-nieces and nephews; her Aunt and Uncle Melbourne and Esther (Westurn) Clark of West Bangor; many cousins; and a longtime family friend, Rick Simons.

She is predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Vera (Westurn) Butler.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Forest Cemetery, St. Regis Falls, with her brother-in-law Rev. Tommy Sochia presiding.

Memorial contributions in Nancy’s honor may be made to the National Arthritis Foundation or the Doey’s Hospice House, 747 Northern Ave, Hagerstown, MD, 21740.
