Canton laxers roll past OFA

CANTON - Mother Nature’s grip on the 2014 Northern Athletic Conference Spring Sports season has played a major hurdle in the preseason development of the OFA Boys Lacrosse team.

On Thursday, the Devils opened up their regular season which no practices on a open-outside field and quickly found themselves behind 5-1 in the first quarter in a 17-2 setback to the Canton Bears.

“A lot of our mistakes were spacing today. We had not played outside this season and Canton has played twice in scrimmages and they played a game. They just showed a lot more progress than us and Canton is also a pretty good team,” said OFA coach Matt Morley.

David Prudhomme scored from Taylor Richardson and Nate Peo tallied unassisted for the Devils (0-1) who received 14 saves from first year starting goalie Quinton Denner.

Peyton VanBibber scored five goals and drew two assists for Canton (1-0). Josh Huiatt added three goals and Jake Facey connected for three goals and one assist for the Bears who led 11-1 at halftime and 15-2 after three.

Cody Moore chipped in one goal and four assists while Gage Emerson added two goals. Other Bears contributing were: Garrett Glasglow (1-1), Issac Thrasher (0-2), Louden Porter (0-1), Tanner Sanderson (0-1), Hunter Yerdon (1-0), and Mark Mahoney (1-0).

Nate Gibson made five saves in net.

Massena 15, Potsdam 2: At SUNY Potsdam, Rhoades Tarbell scored three goals with two assists and Sako Rourke added three goals and one assist as Massena (1-0) defeated the Sandstoners.

Cole Allen and Kendrick Angus both scored twice for Massena. Josh Sanchez scored both goals for Potsdam (0-2).
