CANTON A fast start carried the OFA varsity girls lacrosse team to an 11-4 win over Salmon River Central in the Northern Athletic Conference season opener for both squads at the SUNY Canton turf field Friday night.
Playing in a steady April downpour, the Lady Blue Devils ran out to a 6-0 lead through the first 10 minutes of regulation before settling for an 8-2 halftime advantage.
The teams traded goals through the start of the second half before a last-minute goal by Hunter Shaver closed out the scoring.
Mackenzie Bresett and Taylor Smith anchored a balanced OFA offense with three goals apiece. Carly Garrison and Sky Hoover tallied two goals each while Brooke Badlam earned a solo assist.
Morgan Thompson paced the Lady Shamrocks with a pair of goals. Chrissey Benedict and Kyra Thompson-Douglas each netted singletons.
Marissa Foster turned aside six shots backstopping the win while Raylynn Sunday posted 13 saves working the Salmon River crease.
The boys game between OFA and Salmon River slated to follow the girls game at SUNY Canton was postponed due to a lack of officials.
