CLAYTON The Clayton Food Co-op, which claims to be local and low, now accepts food stamps and has joined the Food $en$e program.
Food $en$e is a monthly program that offers people the chance to stretch their food budget by buying discounted quality food. Each month, participants can pay $15.50 in cash or Food Stamps for the basic food unit, a mix of meat, produce and dry goods. Customers find the food is worth $25 to $35.
Besides the basic food unit, special items are available at a discount. There is no limit to how much buyers can order, and no income requirement to participate. Besides the items sold through Food $en$e, the Clayton Co-op will offer in-store specials available only for program participants.
Those interested in participating in April can place their orders until April 8. For more information, contact the co-op at 686-3242.
