WATERTOWN Following the long, cold winter, Whites Lumber expects to draw families planning to replace decks, patios and roofing at its 26th annual Home Show today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dulles State office Building, 317 Washington St. The two-day show, which kicked off Friday evening, is free to the public.
With 54 vendors, entertainment for children, food, door prizes and free gift bags, families have plenty of motivation to attend this years show, said Kenneth A. Palmer, purchasing manger for Whites Lumber.
Free gift bags for attendees will include compact fluorescent lights, coffee mugs and blue spruce tree plants to commemorate Arbor Day. Door prizes will be announced every half hour during the show, and families can win a swingset or $500 Whites Lumber gift card by entering a grand prize drawing.
A mix of vendors with outdoor and indoor projects will give families diverse menu options from which to choose as they plan home-improvement projects, Mr. Palmer said. Construction experts will demonstrate how to stain exterior fiberglass doors and install under-sink mounted countertops, shingle systems and roofing ventilation.
I think people want to kick the tires and figure out what they need to replace after such a harsh winter, Mr. Palmer said. Theyll find out what they need done, whether its roofing or decking.
For youngsters, todays show will include face painting from noon to 3 p.m., a local magician from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Clifford the Big Red Dog from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Carnival food and beverages sold by members of the General Brown Lions Club will include hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, chips and soda.
Whites, which celebrated its 125th anniversary last year, has about 80 employees at stores in Watertown, Gouverneur, Pulaski and Clayton.
