WEST CARTHAGE – R. David Rohr, 64, 8 Martin St., died Wednesday afternoon at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, where he had been a patient for a short time.
Born in Carthage on June 27, 1949, the son of Richard D. & Lela J. Zecher Rohr. He was a 1967 graduate of Carthage Central School. He earned his BA in Agricultural Business from Cornell University in 1971. He was then drafted into the United States Army where he served for two years in Germany. He married Lisa Langdon in Deer River on March 17, 1974.
Dave worked for Agway before working for the United States Post Office for over 25 years before his retirement as Postmaster in Castorland in 2012. He was an avid snowmobiler and member of the Missing Link Snowmobile Club, a former Cub Scout Leader and former member of the West Carthage Planning Board. He had a passion for restoring classic cars, including his 1929 Ford Model A.
He is survived by his sons and their wives; Matthew & Catherine Rohr, New York City and Michael & Jamie Rohr, St. Augustine, Florida, his best friend and companion, Mary Lou Jordal, Carthage, his siblings; Anne M. Rohr, Carthage, John D. & Phyllis Rohr, Deer River, William D. Rohr & Karen Turck, New Bremen and Bruce D. & Kelly Rohr, Lowville. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. His is predeceased by his wife Lisa in 2006 and his brother Mark in 1998.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 7th at 11:00 AM at the United Community Church, Carthage. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6th from 3 – 6 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.
