Something is very wrong with health care

Our medical costs are a mess.

Break an arm, spend $15,000.

Have a severe headache and go the emergency room, $8,500.

This happened to my nephew, who had a heart attack, only $408,000.

EJ Noble in Governeur had 280 employees taking care of 13 Medicare patients, and now the bankrupt nursing home wants to stay open on someone else’s dime.

Carthage Hospital was going under, and now Massena Memorial is.

An ob-gyn doctor pays $300,000 a year for malpractice insurance.

A friend of mine who made $25,000 a year wanted to buy health insurance and was quoted only $1,500 a month.

Something is very wrong here.

Did you know that most of your county property taxes and sales tax revenue go to support welfare recipients, with the majority of those funds spent to support Medicaid?

Did you know that many of those folks are not native to Jefferson Country, but move here specifically to get on welfare?

Something is very wrong here.

Now along comes ObamaCare, the beginning of total government control of the health care system.

You should be very worried.

But, once again, nobody seems to care.

Washington is all excited about 6 million new signups but forgets to mention the 5 million who lost their insurance on Jan. 1.

Many of the new signups in New York are going on Medicaid, and those folks expect to pay absolutely nothing for their medical care.

Others are getting incredible subsidies amounting to 90 percent of premiums, and they are thrilled.

Nobody cares who pays as long as it is somebody else.

Something is very wrong here.

More than 2,000 pages in the law and more than 20,000 regulations, and it is just beginning.

I dread to think of what health care will look like in 10 years unless this is repealed or altered.

But then I will probably be dead.

Why couldn’t those fools in Washington do just some very simple things?

Allow folks to buy health insurance across state lines.

Allow folks to deduct the cost of health insurance from their income taxes.

Force Medicaid recipients to pay something for their own health care, even if it is only $5 for an office visit or $20 to go to the emergency room.

Allow everyone to set up a medical savings account.

This is simple action that will never happen.

Time is running out for good old USA.
