MASSENA - On a lazy week day afternoon as he was preparing for a class at SUNY Plattsburgh, Ryan Sienkiewicz constructed a simple 21 word message on Twitter.
Unbeknownst to him, Mr. Sienkiewicz would soon be retweeted by country music star Toby Keith.
The retweet was far from the end of his 140 characters or less of fame.
In Mr. Keiths new song Shut up and Hold on, hundreds of tweets directed at the musician appear on screen for the music video and among those is Mr. Sienkiewicz message.
I made a big deal to everyone that it was re-tweeted, and I got a text from one of my friends and they said that my tweet was in the music video, he said. I knew that I had been re-tweeted but it was a while ago. I kind of forgot all about it. I dont know if that was the case from all of those re-tweets if they had been selected. I dont really know what the process was.
The message from the college freshman reads, I could get my stuff ready for class... But Im laying on the floor jamming to @TobyKeithMusic and I have priorities.
The tweet is one of over 25,000 that Mr. Sienkiewicz has posted on the social media site.
I am a huge Twitter user. I had tweeted at Toby Keith before maybe once or twice, he said. I was working on getting ready to go to my class and just felt like taking a day off. I was just listening to music.
Even before the appearance in Mr. Keiths video, Mr. Sienkiewicz says that the celebrity has always been his favorite singer in the genre.
I havent been to any (Toby Keith) concerts yet, but Im looking to go this summer. Country was what I grew up listening to with my dad and is definitely one of my favorite genres, he said. Hes definitely my favorite country artist.
The SUNY Plattsbirgh student explained that his only other famous Twitter connection is the distinction of being followed by rapper Sam Adams.
This is one of my favorite new Toby Keith song,s and I immediately went and watched the video. I immediately told everyone I knew afterwards, Mr. Sienkiewicz said.
Mr. Sienkiewicz is a 2013 Massena Central High School graduate and is the son of Randy Sienkiewicz and Margie Casella.
