Fire safety seminar slated April 19 at Jefferson Community College


WATERTOWN — Jefferson Community College will host the third annual Garrett Loomis Fire Safety seminar, “Safety First So Everyone Goes Home,” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 19 in the Sturtz Theater. Dwelling fires are the focus of this year’s seminar.

Billy Goldfeder, deputy fire chief of the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department in Ohio, will lead the four-hour seminar through video, audio and a wake-up lecture with an in-depth review of recent fire-ground events. The 41-year veteran of fire service has spoken on numerous topics relating to firefighter safety and survival, risk management, leadership, combination fire departments and fire-ground staffing.

Mr. Goldfeder has served on the National Firefighters Near Miss Reporting Task Force board, several committees of the National Fire Protection Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and served for more than 25 years as an instructor at the Fire Department Instructors Conference.

Registration is free and open to all fire, rescue and emergency medical services personnel of Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Oswego, Onondaga and Oneida counties. To register for the seminar, go to
