John R. Hoener 80, of Camden, NY formerly of Barnes Corners, NY passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday April 1, 2014. He was born May 29, 1933 in Syracuse, NY a son of Roy & Laura OConner Hoener and was a Cathedral Academy graduate. John retired from the CSX Railroad in 1993 as a locomotive engineer after 38 years of service. He served with the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during the Korean War. On May 30, 1964 he married the former Judith Hale in Westvale, NY.
John served as local chairman for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Life member of the Sandy Creek Beagle Club and the Black River Valley Beagle Club. Was a member of the Dewitt Fish & Game Club and held memberships with American Legions in Adams, Camden, Cleveland and Sylvan Beach and was an associate member of the Marine Corps League, Lowville, NY. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, running Beagles, fishing and canoeing.
Surviving are his wife, Judith, a daughter, Jill Hoener, Cleveland,NY, two sons, Jeffrey Hoener, Mesa, AZ, Jonathan & Kathryn Hoener, Whiteplains, NY, four grandchildren, Patrick, Garrison, Ashton and Nora, three nephews and a niece. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Susanne & George Crawford.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM Monday from St. Johns Church, Camden, NY. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4-7 pm at the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main Street, Camden, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Creek Beagle Club, Black River Valley Beagle Club or Wanakeena Foot
