Corning Canton plant union to vote on tentative contract Wednesday

CANTON — Negotiations Friday and Saturday have led to a tentative contract for United Steelworkers Local 1026 from the Corning Canton plant.

Workers at the plant, which produces specialty glass that supplies material for the global semiconductor industry, rejected a contract offer last week. Changes in the calculation of overtime pay was cited by some union members as a sticking point.

James H. Ridgeway, north country representative of United Steelworkers, said he could not release any information on the tentative offer until after the vote, which is scheduled for Wednesday.

“We’d like to have Monday and Tuesday to answer any questions the workers may have regarding the tentative,” he said.

Mr. Ridgeway said that he along with the committee will be stationed at the Rensselaer Falls Fire Department, 424 Rensselaer St., from noon to 8 p.m. Monday to answer questions.

The committee also will be available at the plant on Tuesday to answer any further questions.

The Steelworkers represent about 150 workers at the Canton plant on McAdoo Road.
