Baltimore Sun columnist Susan Reamer wrote a column about the Newtown, Conn., shooter. In the story, she states that his father believes his son would have shot him in a heartbeat and he wishes Adam Lanza had never been born.
That Adam would have shot his father should not be a surprise to anyone. You do not require the assistance of a Ouija board to predict the outcome if you allow a family member with obvious mental problems unlimited access to weapons, teach him to use the weapons and allow him to play violent video games for hours on end.
In the case of the Columbine shooters, the parents may not have been to blame. In the case of the Newtown shooter, the mother probably was more to blame than her son. She bought the weapons, gave him access, took him to the range to practice and allowed him access to the video games.
It may take a village to raise a child, but the parents are ultimately responsible for the actions of a child while that child is under their control.
