Youth are invited to learn shooting sports through the 4-H Shooting Sports program this month and next at locations in Canton and Norfolk.
4-H Shooting Sports, like all 4-H programs, emphasizes positive youth development and acquisition of valuable life skills.Participants learn to work together while gaining self-confidence and communication skills.Once again this year, Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County is providing a seven-week 4-H Shooting Sports programfor youth ages 12 to 19. Under the supervision of certified instructors, youth will gain practical experience in firearm safety while participating on ranges with .22 caliber rifles, shotguns and archery equipment.
Instruction will include firearm safety, basic marksmanship, range procedures, and care of firearms. Students will also be introduced to archery, map and compass, GPS and basic outdoor skills. The programs will take place at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club, Cemetery Road, and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm, Route 68, Canton.
Registrants will be enrolled in both 4-H and the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club. The cost is $45, which includes all membership fees, equipment and supplies. Participants will use firearms and bows provided by Cornell Cooperative Extension. Parents are encouraged to participate.

April 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club Intro to firearm safetyand rifle range.
April 26 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club Intro to shotgun shooting and rifle range continued.
May 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Extension Learning Farm Outdoor skill training.
May 10 fro 9 a.m. to noon at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club Intro to archery and shotgun continued.
May 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Extension Learning Farm Wildlife identification andgame calling.
May 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club Shooters choice.
May 31 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Norfolk Rod and Gun Club Shooters choice.
