NORWOOD — The Northern New York Community Foundation has awarded the Norwood Village Green Concert Series $5,000 for the purchase of lighting instruments for the series concert venue, the Norwood Village Green Band Shell.

This grant will be used to replace the middle four lighting instruments purchased in 1990 with Altman Spectra LED Par 100 lighting instruments and provide for their installation.

The grant is a partnership between the Norwood Village Green Concert Series and the Northern New York Community Foundation in which there is a shared one-time cost for the lighting project so that the Norwood Village Green Concert Series can efficiently continue to enhance the community and the region with its programs. The grant proposal asked for start-up money for this major project and this award will serve that function very well.

Over a period of time eight more lighting instruments will be replaced. The total costs of replacing all twelve lighting instruments will be $15,360.

The lighting instruments on the Norwood Village Green Band Shell are at the end of their useful lives and are getting harder to maintain. The village crew, in servicing these instruments, is finding the task of changing lamps more and more difficult. The heat these lamps generate is distracting and uncomfortable to the performer. The system’s dimmers have already failed and are no longer used.

At the same time the Norwood Village Green Concert Series is raising funds to through the Adirondack Community Foundation’s Adirondack Gives program, to purchase two American DJ Par LED systems this year. These portable systems will provide eight more LED lights in a flexible set-up that will be used on the band shell and for the series primary rain-site, the municipal building. At this time 43 percent of the funds been raised within the 60-day time limit. There are more than 30 days left to raise the remainder. For more information on how to donate to this project, visit the series website home page www.nvgcs.org. From here a link to Adirondack Gives can be found. At the same website the 2014 schedule can be perused.

The Norwood Village Green Concert Series continues to seek donations for its 2014 season. Donations can be made on-line or by check: Norwood Village Green Concert Series, 3 Bicknell St., Norwood, N.Y., 13668. All donations are tax deductible.
