Calling hours for Harvey Ted Jones, age 79, of 23 Bethune Street, Alexandria Bay, will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00PM at Costello Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in May at a later date at Church of St. Lawrence with Vicar Jack Andersen officiating. Mr. Jones passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014, with his wife at his side.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn; a son, Christopher Troy Jones, and his wife, Sue, of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Elizabeth Amy Wheeler, and her husband, Edward II, of Haymarket, VA; four grandchildren; one brother, William and his wife, Genie, of Cary, NC and one sister, Betty Ruth Creech, and her husband, Mac, of Hubert, NC.

Ted was born on January 30, 1935, in Raleigh, NC, the son of Harvey and Louise Rhoney Jones. He graduated from Cary High School and from the University of North Carolina. Mr. Jones served in the military from 1958 to 1959. He married Marilyn Ruth Brownell at Church of St. Lawrence on June 15, 1957 with Rev. David Talbot officiating. He worked for the US Postal Service in Colombia, SC as a supervisor of mail where he retired in 1996. He was also a scout for the Milwaukee Brewers and the Baltimore Orioles.

Ted was a past president of Rotary International and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Ted was also Senior Warden at Church of St. Lawrence. He was on the town and village zoning board of appeals in Alexandria Bay, active in the Alexandria Bay Community Thrift Shop and instrumental in starting community gardens in the area. Ted was named Senior Citizen of the year in 2011. He also helped coach high school baseball and football in Alexandria Bay. Ted enjoyed fishing and ice fishing, collecting books and doing puzzles.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Jefferson County Chapter Hospice at 1398 Gotham Street Watertown, NY 13601.
