MORRISTOWN - The village of Morristown passed an $846,511 spending plan for the 2014-2015 fiscal year at Tuesday’s meeting.

The budget will keep the tax rate at $11.53 per $1,000 of assessed value for a total tax levy of $297,414 – a $3,614 increase over last year’s levy.

The newly adopted spending plan is actually a reduction from last year’s budget which, at $951,526, included roughly $100,000 more in appropriations.

Village Superintendent of Public Works Kevin J. Crosby said the decrease in spending comes from the fact that the village finished a number of projects last year.

“We finished a few projects,” Mr. Crosby said. “The Bayside Park boat launch is finished, the pavilion at the fire hall is finished.”

Mayor Cheryl A. Shatraw noted that the budget also maintained the water and sewer fees at the same rate as last year.

Village sewer fees will remain at $360 per year – billed quarterly at $90 – and water will continue to be $7.50 per 1,000 gallons.

In order to balance its budget the village included $62,939 from its reserve accounts in the new spending plan.

The budget was approved by Mrs. Shatraw and trustee Francis E. Colby. Trustee Peter A. Paquette was absent.

At Tuesday’s meeting the village also noted that construction on a road bypassing the Morristown Bay will continue as soon as the snow melts.
