POTSDAM - The Salmon River Central varsity boys lacrosse team steadily pulled away to a 15-1 NAC win on the road over Potsdam Central on Wednesday.
Russ Oakes anchored a balanced attack with three goals and three assists as the Shamrocks fashioned five goals in each of the first two quarters to go into halftime leading 10-0. They added another five unanswered goals before the Sandstoners spoiled the shutout bid when Max Warden converted on an assist from Billy Bergan for a man-up goal with three minutes left in regulation.
Skkylar Thomas added three goals and two assists toward the winning effort. Alan Jacobs also generated three goals while Kyle Lewis (2 assists) and Karonhiate Lazore connected for two goals each. Kason Tarbell (2 assists) and Iothore Lazore struck for the other goals. Bryton Burns and Blaze White each logged solo helpers.
The duo of Tazz Oakes (0 saves) and Darius LaFrance (1 save) split goaltending duties for the Shamrocks while Chase Palmer turned aside seven of the shots he faced working the Sandstoner crease.
The Shamrocks (2-0) will be off until after the upcoming spring break while Potsdam (0-3) will look to get on track this afternoon at home against NAC rival Saranac Lake starting at 4:30 p.m. That game will be followed by another NAC boys lacrosse encounter between Massena Central and St. Lawrence Central starting at 6:30 p.m.
