POTSDAM - One strong start to the 2014 season continued at the expense of another on Wednesday as the Potsdam Central varsity girls lacrosse team generated a 9-3 win at home over NAC rival Canton Central.
Both teams entered the game having won their first three outings but the host Lady Sandstoners ran out to a 4-0 lead 10 minutes after the opening face-off and never looked back in raising their early-season record to 4-0.
The duo of senior Annette Rishe and sophomore Kalie Grant once again combined to spark the Potsdam offense with Rishe producing the first three goals of the game then going on to set up two others while Grant broke the scoring plane five times. Eighth-grader Hannah Drechsel closed out the Potsdam scoresheet with a goal and assist.
Tess Knight paced the Lady Golden Bears with a pair of goals. Emily Pinckney put Canton on the board 10:01 into the game with her only tally.
Katelyn Bloom made three saves backstopping the win while Meg Howard turned aside five shots in the losing cause.
Both teams will be idle through the upcoming spring break and are not slated to return to action until the week of April 20.
