The calling hours for Randy L. Hess, 60, of Belleville, are Friday, April 11th from 6pm – 9 pm and the funeral service will be Saturday, April 12th at 11 am at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville with Pastor Terry Alford officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Belleville, at a date to be announced. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County or to the Woodville Congregational Church.

Randy passed away Tuesday, April 8th at his home.

He was born in Watertown, October 4th, 1953, a son to Henry and Grace Secor Hess. He was educated at Union Academy Belleville, and was a member of the UAB Black Knights basketball team that made it into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Following his education, Randy worked on the family farm for many years. He later worked for a cable company and then became a self-employed contractor until ill health forced him to retire. During his medical retirement, Randy enjoyed woodworking in his “Papa Shop” at his home. One of his many woodworking projects was rebuilding the pews at the Woodville Congregational Church.

Randy enjoyed watching sports, mostly basketball; DIY; HGTV; and spending time with his family. Randy also liked making things with his hands. He found great happiness in remodeling, restoring, and rebuilding anything he could.

Randy is survived by his daughters, Nicole Hainline and her companion, Jesse Vance, Adams Center; Erin Hess, Watertown; his son, Thomas Hess, Syracuse. Two grandchildren, Ein and Alexus Hainline. His brother, David Hess, Henderson and his sister, Patti “Ellie Mae” Gerlach, Belleville. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his friend and former wife, Sheila Morales, and friend Chris “Buck” Morales.

Randy is predeceased by his parents and his dog “Bear”.
