State police on Tuesday charged Andrew D. Ladouceur, 24, of 478 Haggert Road, with aggravated driving while intoxicated after a car crash allegedly caused by his use of a cellphone.
Troopers said that at about 8:30 p.m. on Lovejoy Road in the town of Oswegatchie, Mr. Ladouceur was traveling west when his vehicle went onto the south shoulder of the road and struck an embankment.
Troopers said Mr. Ladouceur told them he had been texting while driving when he went off the road and crashed. He refused medical treatment. Further investigation revealed that Mr. Ladouceur had a blood alcohol content of 0.21 percent. Aggravated DWI is charged when the BAC is 0.18 percent or higher.
Mr. Ladouceur also was ticketed with failure to keep right and operating a motor vehicle while using a portable electronic device.
He was released to a third party and issued tickets returnable to Oswegatchie Town Court.
