College lacrosse: SUNY Potsdam surpasses Plattsburgh


POTSDAM — A three-goal spurt in the fourth quarter helped the SUNY Potsdam men’s lacrosse team edge SUNY Plattsburgh 8-7 in a SUNYAC game Wednesday night.

SUNY Plattsburgh (8-4 overall, 1-2 conference) led 6-5 after three quarters, but goals from Ed Doherty, Matt Kennedy and Berkley Stone put SUNY Potsdam ahead to stay.

Goalie Ryan Duffy set a career high with 19 saves for the Bears (7-3, 1-1).

Potsdam’s Rob Kunz finished with one goal and three assists. Stone and Kennedy each scored twice. Pat Bonafede and Jon Woodworth also scored for SUNY Potsdam.

Jack Felter and Tim Lawrence both scored twice for the Cardinals.

n The Bears women’s lacrosse team defeated Morrisville State 19-15 after going on a 13-8 run in the second half in a nonconference game in Morrisville.

Michelle Varney and Bri McClusky each scored six goals for the Bears (4-6). Bailey Weigel scored four goals and Katie Lapinski, Mariah Pierce and Michaela Cole added single goals.

Hunter Waldau led Morrisville State (5-5) with six goals, and Shelby Wood threw in three with Cassie Edmondson adding two goals.
