Adirondack Council asks legislators to reconsider environmental harm from Snirt Run

LOWVILLE — The Adirondack Council has issued a news release asking Lewis County legislators to reconsider their prediction that the 11th annual Snirt Run, set for Saturday, will cause no environmental harm.

The full statement from the council, the Adirondack Park’s largest environmental organization, can be read here:

It also contains several links to online videos which, it says, show damage to wetlands and illegal use of utility vehicles.

The Snirt Run is a fundraising poker run organized by the Barnes Corners Sno-Pals Snowmobile Club. It takes place on roadways opened exclusively for the event. Riders travel by all-terrain vehicle from numerous establishments over an eight-hour period, vying for prizes.

The route does not enter the Adirondack Park.
