WATERTOWN Touting the health benefits of electronic cigarettes, Vapor Divas was opened by Debbie M. Shecton and her daughter, Kaylie M., at 212 Franklin St. in March.
Electronic cigarette kits range from $21.99 to $29.99 at the store, which offers more than 50 so-called eJuices with flavors like Tigers Blood, Bahama Mama and Cherry Coke. Users of e-cigarettes inhale vapor produced by the burning of liquid nicotine creating a simulation of smoking, but without most of the harmful chemicals.
Debbie Shecton, a 49-year-old town of Russell resident, said she was inspired to open the shop after she witnessed the benefits of e-cigarettes herself. The former smoker said her health has improved since she switched to vaping with e-cigarettes about a year ago.
I can now run five miles. I wake up in the morning without a cough, and my blood pressure is great, Ms. Shecton said. And this is becoming more popular in cities, because smoking is banned in public places but you are allowed to use e-cigarettes.
The store has had a steady stream of customers since it opened March 15, including soldiers from Fort Drum seeking to get healthier and mothers with children who are concerned about second-hand smoke, Ms. Shecton said. She said a second Vapor Divas store will be opened at Salmon Run Mall in June to provide two locations in the city.
Kaylie Shecton, 21, said that by purchasing fluid with different doses of nicotine, people can exercise better control over how much they are inhaling with e-cigarettes, which are powered by rechargeable batteries.
Bottles of fluid sold at the store can be customized to contain anywhere from zero to 36 milligrams of nicotine.
Vapor Divas is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Follow the business on Facebook by searching Vapor Divas.
