Introducing French-speaking visitors to the region, the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council launched a French-language website this month, www.milleiles.com.
The website aims to introduce French-speaking residents from Quebec to the Thousand Islands region across the north country and southeastern Ontario. To launch the site, the council partnered with a Canadian Web services company based in Brockville, Ontario.
There are subtle differences between Quebec French and Parisian and standard French, Corey Fram, council communications manager, said in a release. We are targeting Quebec visitors more than those making the overseas trip. It was important that we address the nuances between the two to appeal to potential visitors just a few hours away.
The website provides an overview of recreational activities and historical sites on both sides of the border.
