Omar Steve Reginald Stevenson, 83, of Ogdensburg, passed away on the morning of Friday, April 11, 2014 at the VA Hospital in Syracuse. He was born in the town of Oswegatchie to his late parents, Wilbert and Stella Lelota Perrin Stevenson on November 15, 1930.
Omar attended Heuvelton Schools and entered the US Air Force at the age of 17. He was very proud that he participated in the Berlin Airlift of 1948. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Omar then joined the family appliance repair business. He also worked at Rockland State Hospital for a time. He married Virginia Strohmeyer on September 25, 1960 in Yonkers, NY. She predeceased him in 1995. He was a long distance truck driver and was one of the first to drive the Eisenhower Interstate System starting as it was being built. He then became the Sears Repairman for many years so he could spend more time with his family. He also operated Steves Appliance Repair Business for many years. He eventually returned to the career he loved, truck driving. Omar retired from RELCO in 1996. He loved to cook for his family and was known for his quick wit and hearty laugh.
Omar is survived by his son and best friend, John Stevenson, and his fiancée, Julia Wears; a daughter, Jennifer Stevenson, and companion, Suzanne Brashaw; a son, James Stevenson, and his wife, Dawn; a grandson, Timothy Stevenson and several step grandchildren, also a sister, Mrs. Naomi Sholette. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Stevenson and a sister, Lillian (Stevenson) Stephenson.
