HAMMOND – Hammond Central seniors are taking their senior trip on the same cruise ship where hundreds of passengers became severely ill last week.

According to the Associated Press, Royal Caribbean cruise line’s The Grandeur of the Seas returned to Baltimore, Md., early Saturday morning after a voyage where more than 100 people were inflicted with diarrhea and constant vomiting.

The federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention has said the symptoms were caused by a norovirus, and the ship was sanitized.

School Board president Timothy W. Pitcher said Monday that officials are keeping tabs on the 10 students who boarded the ship Saturday to ensure they do not become ill.
