Notable Donation: Matt Burr, drummer for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, recently commissioned and donated a drum set to aspiring musicians at St. Lawrence University’s Java Barn. Mr. Burr, SLU class of 2003, had the kit painted in the university’s colors and signed the set as he donated it on March 27.

Notable Donation: Clayton American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821 recently donated $4,000 to the Rotary Club of Clayton’s $4,000 challenge grant to restore Wooden Castle Playground at Village Square Park, Clayton. Engineers of the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, will provide all labor in the restoration as a community service training project.

Receives grant: The Norwood Village Green Concert Series recently received a $5,000 grant from the Northern New York Community Foundation. The funds will be used to purchase new lighting for the series’ concert venue, the Norwood Village Green bandshell.

Winners: The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce recently announced the winner of the local historic landmark to be depicted on a collectable ornament the chamber offers for sale each year. “The Abbe Francois Picquet Monument,” by Nicki Ryan, Ogdensburg native, took first place with his hand-drawn depiction of the 1899 monument. A rendition of the Hotel McConville took second place and tied for third place were drawings of Claxton-Hepburn Memorial Hospital and the Customs House.

Honored: Trisha Parmeter, a senior at Ogdensburg Free Academy, was named the BOCES Student of the Month for April by the Greater Ogdenbsurg Chamber of Commerce. Miss Parmeter, a student in the early childhood education program at BOCES, plans to continue studying early childhood education at SUNY Canton. She received a certificate of achievement and Chamber Dollars check.
