Girl Scout recruiting events planned in Carthage

WEST CARTHAGE — Just because Girl Scout cookie sales wrapped up April 15 doesn’t mean Scouting activities have stopped.

The NYPENN Pathways council will host a recruiting event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 26 at Carthage High School.

“This is an occasion for girls to participate in an event pathway,” said Edie A. Roggie, Watertown Service Center community development manager.

The event is open to unregistered girls for $20 per girl — $5 for the event and $15 for the Girl Scout registration fee. However, girls who attend are not obligated to join a troop. Girls who may have busy schedules can join with the intent of solely attending council events. Registration runs until fall.

The event is open to girls in kindergarten through 12th grade throughout the region and will include swimming, crafts, Zumba and a dance party. Additional activities could be organized depending on the number of girls attending.

“This will introduce girls to Girl Scouts and help them decide if they want to be in Scouts in the fall,” Ms. Roggie said.

Girls must sign up by April 23. Call 782-1890, ext. 2213 or 2215. Girls should bring a bagged lunch and bottle of water with their name on it.

Additional council and service unit events are being planned throughout the spring and summer. Service units include Bonaparte, covering the Carthage and Copenhagen area; Lewis, covering the majority of Lewis County; Black River Valley, covering the Watertown area; Riverside, covering the St. Lawrence River area; Ontario, covering the Lake Ontario region, and South Jefferson, covering the southern part of Jefferson County.

Additional recruitment events will be held throughout the area. A Girls Night Out will be held April 25 at Immaculate Heart Central School, Watertown; a Spring Fling is set for May 30 in southern Jefferson County, and an artist fun evening is planned in Lowville on the same day.

Financial aid is available for girls and may be requested on the registration form.
