MASSENA - After operating a gym this past summer out of the basement of his home, John Roder has now expanded his business by opening The Temple at the St. Lawrence Centre.
It just took off, Mr. Roder said, noting that when he first opened his business out of his home he only had a few clients. When I first started, I had two or three clients per week, now I have 43 clients.
The Temple is open by appointment only from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and while Mr. Roder is currently the only employee, he said his fiance, Kelly Gregor, is going to school to become a nutritionist.
Were going to make this a family business, he said. This all started from a basement gym and a dream.
Mr. Roder said he has he has been a certified personal trainer for 15 years, starting his career at the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid.
When I first got certified and began working in Lake Placid about 15 years ago, I fell in love with working out, he said, adding sharing that passion with others is something he really enjoys.
When people come up to me and thank me for what Im doing for them, its a great feeling.
When asked where the name for his business came from, Mr. Roder replied that he works out religiously.
A temple for me is a place of worship, and as far as physical fitness, thats something I do religiously, he said. Just like with any church or temple, you can come here and leave all your outside worried behind. You can come here and focus on one thing.
Mr. Roder said his current roster of clients ranges from an eight-year-old boy to a 65-year-old woman.
All and everybody are welcome, he said. This could be the start of a new you.
