Flooding has prompted Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to declare a state of emergency for the north country.
The declaration, issued Tuesday night, covers Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Lewis, Franklin, Essex and Herkimer counties.
The state provided 10,000 sandbags for the South Edwards Dam in St. Lawrence County, where officials with Brookfield Renewable Power activated emergency protocols on Tuesday due to high water levels on the Oswegatchie River.
While floods are now receding in some areas, I urge New Yorkers in impacted counties to stay safe, heed the advice of their local emergency first responders and look out for their friends and neighbors, Mr. Cuomo said in a news release posted to the governors office website.
