“We should be a competitive team in the Central.”

OFA’s first year Girls Softball Coach Mark Henry said a lot with those few words to sum up his outlook toward the coming season which is scheduled to open (weather permitting) next week.

Being competitive in the NAC Central is a very positive outlook considering NAC Central Softball has conistently featured extreme talent and depth.

Section 10 Class A Champion Malone led the division at 12-0 last while Class B finalists OFA, under the direction of Meg Bartell, and Canton matched 8-4 records followed by Massena at 7-5 and Gouverneur at 5-7.

Henry brings an outstanding coaching resume to the OFA softball program. A resume which includes back-to-back NAC Central and Section 10 Class B titles and the Final Four trip by the OFA Basketball team in March and guiding a series of championships and one NYS Class D Final Four appearance for the Heuvelton Central Softball program.

“Defenively this should be a good group. We need to hit better and do the little things that win games,” said Henry who will be assisted by Ryan Farrell.

“Jenny Dalton is throwing hard and needs to stay healthy.”

Dalton, a junior, starts her first full varsity season after two strong JV campaigns and she will be backed by a starting outfielder in junior Riley Luckie.

Luckie will be among a group of returning starters who must replace the production at the plate in the field of First All-NAC selections in Brittany and Felicia Barr and second team selections Stacey Barr, Jocelyn Fifield and Shannon Tooley.

Also returning are: Mollee Ahrens (Jr catcher), Madi Bresett (So 2b), Adrianna Compo (Sr OF), Paige Perry (Sr OF), Cheyenne Tyo (Sr OF) and Michaela Beyette (Sr OF). Moving up from the JV ranks are: Sadie Brown (Jr. OF), Kaylie Downing (Jr SS), Jillian Lincoln (So 3b), Taylor Perry (Fr SS), Alicia Sharpe (Jr 1b), Alicia Shaver (Jr OF), Kristen Snyder (Jr 1b, 3b) and Ashliegh Sovie (Jr OF).
