College hockey: St. Lawrence expects 7 recruits this fall

CANTON — St. Lawrence University expects seven newcomers will join the men’s hockey team this fall before the 2014-15 season commences. Wednesday marked the first day of the spring signing period for NCAA Division I sports.

The incoming class includes three forwards, three defensemen and a goalie who will be added to the roster, according to Saints head coach Greg Carvel.

The forwards include right wing Christian Horn (native of Plymouth, Minn., Tri-City, Sioux Falls Stampede, United States Hockey League), who is a transfer from the University of Minnesota, left wing Ryan Lough (Manotick, Ont., Green Bay, USHL) and center Michael Marnell (Huntington Station, Des Moines, USHL).

The defenders are Mitch Eden (Bracebridge, Ont., Green Bay, USHL), Nolan Gluchowski (Wixom, Mich., Tri-City, Sioux Falls Stampede, USHL) and Matt Purmal (Merrill, Wis., Green Bay, USHL). The incoming goalie is Kyle Hayton (Faribault, Minn., Sioux City Musketeers, USHL).

An expanded look at this class will appear in Sunday’s Times.
