Frances J. Curtis Valente

LATHAM – Frances “Fran” J. Curtis Valente, 81, of Latham and Adams Cove, Jefferson County, NY, died after a short illness on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ after being stricken on her way home from Naples, FL.

Fran was born in Watertown, NY on January 21, 1933, the daughter of the late Dewey and Frances Devine Curtis. As a young child, she moved to Watervliet with her family and graduated from Watervliet High School in 1950. Following her marriage, she raised her family and was a stay at home mom. After the children were grown, she was employed by the New York State Legislature for over 20 years before retiring 20 years ago.

She was a communicant of the former St. Brigid’s Church where she was a member of the Rosary Society and St. Ambrose Church in Latham. She enjoyed her winters in Naples, FL with her “extended family” and her summers in Adams Cove. Fran especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is the beloved wife and “love of his life” of Donald J. Valente with whom she would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 1st; devoted mother of Mary (John) Sennett of Menands, Paul C. (Kimberly) Valente of Loudonville, Donald C. (Cheryl) Valente of Latham, Jack F. (Christin) Valente of Loudonville, Daniel M. (Courtney) Valente of Latham and the late Thomas Valente; adored grandmother of Claire (Chris) Jones, Timothy (Juliana) Sennett, Julia Sennett, Andrew Valente, Scott Ovitt, Jr., Kara and Holly Valente, Emma Valente, Erin, Bridget and Isla Valente; great grandmother of Lucy Jones; dear sister of Jack (late Ginny) Curtis of Mills River, NC, Joan (late Ed) Tetrault of Cohoes and the late Mary Louise (late John) Dennis of St. Augustine, FL. Fran is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to our lifelong friends, Joan and Hank Weglarz, with whom we have spent countless wonderful times shared together over the years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass on Tuesday, April 22nd at 10 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 25th St. & 7th Ave., Watervliet. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. There are no public calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Albany Medical Center Foundation, designated to the Stroke Center, 43 New Scotland Avenue, MC119, Albany, NY 12208.
