EVANS MILLS Residents of LeRay will have a chance to hear about the towns proposed new zoning law at a public hearing scheduled for 6 tonight at the Evans Mills Fire Department, 8615 LeRay St.
Among the bigger changes proposed is a consolidation of zoning districts within the town.
Its a lot simpler, said Jessica L. Jenack, the towns community development coordinator and one of the organizers of the committee charged with forming recommendations for the rules.
She said the creation of a new zoning law coincides with the towns comprehensive plan, approved in 2010. The changes have been in development for months, with the committee members representing departments across the town. The last time the zoning rules were crafted was in the 1980s, Mrs. Jenack said, with a few minor local laws passed since then.
Other changes would increase the clarity of rules about signs, while others would clarify commercial design regulations already on the books.
The town previously sought input about the zoning changes last fall, and Mrs. Jenack said the town has received a few concerns that officials reviewed in the months since that meeting.
This will be the opportunity for them to see what weve done, and provide more input, she said.
Representatives from Rochester-based Bergmann Associates, which crafted the draft documents, also will attend to discuss their work.
