BRASHER FALLS — Spring cleanup is in the air in the town of Brasher.

Brasher officials have set the clean-up dates for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16 and 17 at the transfer station on Route 420, Massena.

Highway Superintendent Larry P. Hewlett said the town will accept furniture, paint cans that are empty, uncovered and dried, anti-freeze, oil containers and “general junk.” Loads must be tarped.

The town will not, however, accept tires, construction debris, asphalt shingles, brush and hazardous or flammable liquids in containers.

Garbage and burn barrels also will not be accepted those days.

Mr. Hewlett said residents who have metal items such as stoves, refrigerators, washers and dryers can drop them off at Savage’s or Seguin’s.

Electronics must also be separated from the remainder of the items brought to the transfer station, he said.

“Electronics are separate now. We have a guy that will take that,” Mr. Hewlett said.

He said the service is free but is limited to taxpayers and residents in the town of Brasher only; no commercial haulers will be accepted.

“All others will be turned away,” he said. “This will be strictly enforced.”

Mr. Hewlett said they coordinate their clean-up dates with county transfer station officials so they don’t conflict with clean-up dates being held by other municipalities.
