PLATTSBURGH A public forum about venture capital investing hosted by state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 7 at the Holiday Inn, 412 Route 3.
Titled Venture North: A North Country Investment Forum, the program will include presentations on different investment strategies, target sectors, how business owners should seek equity investors and an outlook on the regions business climate from the perspective of equity investors. Speakers include:
n Kevin M. Halpin, DeltaPoint Capital, and Thomas J. Rest, Grosvenor Capital Management, who both are part of the state Common Retirement Funds In-State Co-Investment Program. They will provide information on large transactions for established businesses.
n Somak Chattopadhyay, Armory Square Ventures, will discuss a new venture fund seeking investment opportunities in the north country.
n Patrick Mackrell, president and CEO of the New York Business Development Corp., will give his perspective on the lending environment for small businesses.
n Frank McEvoy, In-State Equity Fund portfolio manager, will provide an overview of the program that has invested in more than 250 companies statewide.
n Matthew Draper, Clarkson University, Potsdam, will discuss the north countrys new Innovation Hot Spot Program, one of the first five to be established in the state.
Advance registration, at $40 per person, is required because of limited space. The presentations will be followed by lunch.
It is hoped that the forum, co-sponsored by Global North Country and the North Country Alliance, will become an annual event held at venues across the region.
In addition to the 10 a.m. investment forum, a separate Government Affairs Breakfast Forum with Mr. DiNapoli will take place at 8 a.m. at the same location. For those who wish to attend both programs, there will be a combined registration cost of $55 per person.
